1/2 cup of buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
beat sugar with shortening until smooth. add the eggs and mix well. then add the buttermilk and reduced cider.
1 cup of granulated sugar
2 cups of confectioners' sugar
boil apple cider in a small saucepan until it is reduced to 1/4 cup about 8-10 minutes. cool.
1/2 tsp salt
vegetable oil or shortening for frying
1/4 cup of shortening
1 cup of apple ciderglaze
2 tsp baking powder
3 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp nutmeg
stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg in another bowl. add to liquid ingredients. mix just enough to combine. transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. pat the dough into a 1/2 inch thickness. cut with a 2 1/2 to 3 inch doughnut cutter or you can make the dough into small balls for doughnut holes. ingredients
or you can roll them in granualated sugar as pictured above.
for the glaze - mix the sugar and cider. dip the doughnuts while warm. serve warm.

2 large eggs
1/4 cup of apple cider
add enough oil or shortening to fill a deep pan 3 inches. heat the oil to 375 degrees. fry several doughnuts at a time. turn once or twice until browned and cooked through. about four minutes. remove to paper towels. then roll in granulated ugar or dip into glaze.
