This is a childhood favorite of mine. My Mom always used to make these at the holidays. I do not know where the recipe is from.
Ingredients for the cookies
- 1/2 cup of butter softened
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 2 teaspoons of baking powder
- 2 3/4 cups of flour
Ingredients for the frosting I suggest doubling this if you plan to decorate your cookies
- 1 box of conf. sugar = to one pound
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 1/2 cup of shortening
- 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tarter
- 1/3 cup of water
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- Cream the butter and the sugar.
- Beat in the eggs and vanilla.
- Add the baking powder.
- Add the flour one cup at a time.
- Roll out the dough and use your favorite cookie cutter shapes.
- Place on a baking sheet and bake for 6-7 minutes. Remove from sheet and place onto a cooling rack.
- After the cookies have cooled mix the ingredients for the frosting together with a mixer. Color the frosting and decorate. Enjoy
